\nChimengul Awut<\/strong><\/span>, she is a well known Uyghur (female) poet and her pen name is \u201cChimenqush” (it means a flower bird). She worked for Kashgar Uyghur Publishers as a senior editor before she was taken away to the China’s Concentration Camps in July 2018. She\u2019s good friend of mine, last time I have spoken with her on the phone in August 2016. Here is her shortest poem written for her son before her arrest. Poem extracted from her WeChat page.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

She wrote:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“My dear son<\/span>
\nPlease don’t cry<\/span>
\nThe whole world will cry for you!”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So let’s cry together for Chimengul and other thousands of unknown Chimanguls’ freedom in the Uyghur homeland! Lets\u2019 cry for the release of millions of innocent Uyghur people from China\u2019s 21st Century Concentration Camps!<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, here is my poem dedicated for Chimengul’s freedom:<\/span><\/p>\n

Chimenqush – a flower bird<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Aziz Isa Elkun<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Chimenqush (1)<\/span>
\nThe flower bird of Kashgar<\/span>
\nThe moment before the smell of hot summer went away<\/span>
\nYou were happy singing in the village<\/span>
\nYour footprints were still fresh in the dust.<\/span><\/p>\n

So I said<\/span>
\nI can\u2019t believe you have become a wilted flower<\/span>
\nI can\u2019t believe you have become a caged bird<\/span>
\nI want to break the lock of that cage<\/span>
\nI want to curse all the locks in our world<\/span>
\nI want to burn away all evil with my rage<\/span>
\nThe fire of revenge will consume them \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Your poems will soar<\/span>
\nIn the blue sky where you belong<\/span>
\nBecause the sky is free, unlike you<\/span>
\nIt can visit you through your narrow window<\/span>
\nWhen you feel sad \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Chimenqush<\/span>
\nI know you were never afraid of the seasons<\/span>
\nI know no one can cheat you
\nYou will return one day<\/span>
\nYou will come back next spring<\/span>
\nHolding a bunch of flowers in your hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t come<\/span>
\nThe poplar trees won\u2019t blossom<\/span>
\nThe peach trees won\u2019t bloom in Beshkerem (2)
\nSwallows won\u2019t fly over the city of Kashgar
\nLife won\u2019t go on without you!<\/span><\/p>\n
