The sun shines above the volcano<\/span>
\nBy the sea where Mussolini\u2019s boot was burned<\/span>
\nTheir green orchards were full of fruit<\/span>
\nTheir fortresses were the tallest of all.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fish swim merrily through the sea<\/span>
\nThe smell of wine has not yet evaporated from the pot<\/span>
\nA couple on the beach forget the world<\/span>
\nA love song sung at high tide.<\/span><\/p>\n

The silver-coated water gleams<\/span>
\nLove\u2019s sails blush on the horizon <\/span>
\nUnlucky mountains with great sorrow in their hearts –<\/span>
\nShake the earth when they explode.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Lovers\u2019 tragic stories are carried by the boats <\/span>
\nOn this island countless babies were born \u2026<\/span>
\nYet how many hopes were drowned in the sea <\/span>
\nTears fall from the dark clouds on the face of the earth.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cathedral\u2019s twin domes are in rebellion<\/span>
\nThe god of love sunk in silence<\/span>
\nThese ancient fortresses were left to us by kings<\/span>
\nThey tell us the truth unflinchingly.<\/span><\/p>\n

The colourful street leads straight to the fortress<\/span>
\nEvery step reminds me of Kashgar<\/span>
\nTheir noodles and pastries are like ours<\/span>
\nThe figs of Atush grow here throughout the seasons. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hopes are floating on the Mediterranean Sea<\/span>
\nThey arouse great desire in the heart of a desert boy<\/span>
\nGusts of wind kiss my chin without asking consent<\/span>
\nThey drag me to the sea to swim with the sun. <\/span><\/p>\n

This island has witnessed countless ages of history <\/span>
\nThough the spirit of the Romans has diminished<\/span>
\nElkun seeks a moment of comfort here<\/span>
\nEven though his life belongs to the Tarim!<\/span><\/p>\n
